NOTHING wears me out faster than these two blessings......doing what they do best: arguing and bugging each other!
You would think that with the 4 1/2 year age difference that we would skip all of the sibling rivalry.....but let me tell you that no, it has not happened for us. This brother/sister combo. love each other so much....and they also irritate the heck out of each other!
My oldest, strong-willed, beautiful child has a strong motherly instinct.....VERY strong. A lot of times she thinks she IS the mother of her two little brothers. It is a hard balance because I actually need her help in a number of ways. But, if I give her too much responsibility she thinks she is the mom, the disciplinarian and the wisdom of the house. Oh boy.
Poor Tyler can not talk very much. He is doing a lot better in this area but it really frustrates him not being able to speak. So, in order to defend himself, he SCREAMS. When I hear those screams, there are almost ALWAYS 2 people at fault.....his sister for bossing or bugging, and him for over reacting.
All I have been able to do to combat this problem is have them hold hands and look me in the eye. We talk about how God gave them to each other. God gave Ellie a younger brother when she was all alone. God gave Tyler a family when he needed one. God gave me both my kids. We hug. We cry. We thank Jesus for each other......and I get worn out.
I know sibling rivalry is normal, but boy, is it hard to take! I feel for my mom.....hardly any sisters fought like we used to. But, we loved each other, deep down.....and I pray that love with my kids will always remain as the strongest of all emotions!
I LOVE how you make them work it out!
