and it is a Friday afternoon, I get to indulge!!!!
I have a craft space for the first time in my life! Not only do I have a place to work on my projects (which I have been....a lot!), I get to decorate it in a great way! I wanted to do something cheap and easy, but creative and beautiful too!
I decided to make the word "Create" and decorate it to hang in my space!
For this project you will need:
Styrofoam board
knife
modpodge
sponge brushes
fabric scraps in coordinating colors
ribbon
1. I had the idea in my head, but when I priced the pre-made letters in the store, it came up to more than $20. I knew I could make it for much cheaper. So, I bought a $5 piece of styrofoam board, traced the block letters onto it with pencil and cut it out with an exacto knife. *Note: Styrofoam cuts look very rough, but for this project it does not matter, as the rough pieces will end up looking smooth covered in fabric!
2. Cut strips of material for each of the letters. I then laid the material with each letter to figure out how I wanted it to look!
3. This is the messy part and the part that kids love....both my 7 year old and 2 year old loved helping me! Begin wrapping the material around the letters, smearing mod podge underneath the strip and then on top of it. Completely cover each letter with material and with the mod podge. It does take a bit of patience, but is well worth it!
4. Allow each letter to dry on a raised surface at least overnight (I used by boiler rack!).
5. When totally dry, attach ribbon to the back of each letter and then hang!
This project was totally fun and I LOVED that it was a scrap-buster as well!!
So creative! Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteVery fun :-) My sister has been wanting to do her baby's name on her wall above the crib. I will have to share this idea with her.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy reading your blog . . . the variety is so interesting and your honesty is so encouraging. Keep it up!
