Proverbs 31: Day 16: Dear Daughter

Day 16. Write a letter to your daughter, or a young girl in your life. Tell her what beauty means.

Dear Ellie,

Funny that we had this conversation TODAY. Beauty is inward, not outward. In spite of the fact that you truly are beautiful on the outside.....unless your heart matches up with it, you actually look quite ugly. When you yell at your brother.....when you are selfish.....when you have a horrible attitude.....when you are disrespectful......then your heart is ugly. But, all that is what beauty ISN'T. We need to focus on what beauty IS!

Beauty is loving. True beauty is when you allow the love of Christ to shine through your life, so that when people see you, they see Jesus. Sometimes you are the only Jesus that some people will see. Did you know that lots of little girls and boys your age do not even know who Jesus is, that Jesus loves them and made them? You have to show them that through your life! You have grown up learning about Jesus and how He is your Creator. He loves you with an everlasting love and wants you to live forever with Him in heaven.....but so many people do not know that! So many people think that there are a series of "rules" that you have to follow in order to live with Jesus forever, when they don't know that He is a gift. Salvation is a free gift and all they have to do is accept that! But, if you have horrible attitudes and live like the world does, people will not see that in your life!

Beauty is so much more than your outward appearance....and you may be surprised to hear that because that is exactly the opposite of what the world wants you to believe. Did you know that magazines and TV shows and movies and even some people can LIE to you? I want to protect you from this, but you know I can not. I can only inform you of the TRUTH!

I pray for your heart my dear Ellie. I pray for protection and innocence, love and peace, joy and freedom from fear. I love your heart and I pray for beauty for your heart. I pray that as you grow you will learn more and more about what true beauty is and how to strive for the beauty that will last when your hair is grey, your face has wrinkles, your bones creak and your eyes grown dim.

I love you my dear, beautiful, strong-willed daughter! Keep growing in Jesus and He will transform your heart into one of true beauty!

Love,
Mommy
