Q. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
"...to enjoy Him forever." I wonder how many of us actually believe that. I think that so many of us, Christians or otherwise, have a very warped sense of who God is. Many people believe that He is the supreme Creator, but that He is waiting for us to just mess up so He can strike us down with lightning. Even though we may not vocalize it, I think that many people are actually afraid of God. Yes, He has judgement as part of His character.....but you have to pair that with LOVE and GRACE as well. I know that I have struggled with accepting the fact that when God blesses me, it is because He LOVES me and for no other reason....it is not because I deserve to be blessed in any way. The funny thing is that children do not have any problem at all accepting the fact that God loves them.
I have noticed a lot of spiritual lessons with my children lately. One in particular has really been resonating with me. Every day while walking my kids to the bus stop (we have to walk 2 blocks), my youngest is riding in the wagon. Without a doubt, every single day, he will point out something that He loves....something that is beautiful or that resonates with him. He will point and say "Look at (fill in the blank). God made that for ME!" Today it was "Look at the beautiful moon. God made that for ME!" The other day it was "Look at the sprinklers....God made that for ME!"
If we approached the world like a child's....with a child's delight and seeing all the blessings that God has truly made for us, I think that our view of God would begin to slowly change. God has made SO MUCH in this world for us to enjoy. This world is not our home (and boy am I thankful for that!), but while we are here there is simply so much that He continually blesses us with. We need to look past all the bad and horrible things that SIN and SATAN has brought into this world and know that we are not without our Creator. He wants to bless us and He does every single day.....but we need to be on the look out for that!
Just another lesson from a 3 year old this morning!
