Because of my obligations of singing on the praise team every week, I hardly have the "opportunity" to play the nurse at home with sick kids. Usually daddy is the one who stays home on Sundays that a child or 2 (or 3) are sick. Unless I am sick, I go and I sing.
But today we had a rare week off and my Trenton has a cold. No one would appreciate those goopy eyes coming into Sunday School class. So, I grabbed up the opportunity to stay home with him while daddy take the olders to church.
But, as I learned growing up, staying home from church doesn't just mean staying home and have a day off.....lazing about doing nothing. We can do something a little bit different and have home church, which sometimes is what our souls need anyway!
But then I began to question. Trenton is not even 2 yet. Can he appreciate a Bible lesson? Can he really participate in worship?
My mind remembers this verse from Psalm 8:2:
"From the lips of CHILDREN and INFANTS the Lord ordains praise...."
We have an obligation to teach even our very littlest, how to praise Jesus.....how to fold their hands in respect for His name.....how to raise their hands in worship.......how to sing to His glory.
Trenton and got his picture Bible and he flipped through it while we sang his favorite song......the God made song. Let me teach it to you.
God made the ......
God made the......
God made everything.
God made the......
That's it. Let the kids fill in the blank. We will sing the first verse:
God made Trenton.
God made Trenton.
God made everything.
God made Trenton.
Then I say "Trenton, what else did God make?"
Without fail his face lights up and he says "Daddy!" 100% of the time :)
So we sang and sang and sang....and clapped and clapped and clapped.....and prayed for Jesus giving Trenton life when it looked like He would bring death.
Teach your kids to worship. Be age appropriate. Give them nuggets to hold onto. Don't think they are too young. Jesus said "Let the little children come unto me." The children are SPECIAL to Jesus. We have an obligation to teach those little hearts about Jesus.
One more time I repeat "You are a wonderful mother." When I hear about little things you remember from your childhood of how your mother and I tried to teach you and Rachel about the things of God, I get all teary eyed. You'll never know until you walk down the road of life a few more miles and are able to look back,to see what that means exactly. But it sure is wonderful to hear about you and Rachel teaching your kids to honor the Lord now, because one day in the not too distant future, you will see it all come back to you again as you watch your kids walk against the tide of a culture that has completely turned its completely on God. Keep it up babe. I love you very much, Dad
