Rain Checks!

Until recently, I did not participate in Rain Checks. I just cashed in on a big one, so I thought I would share the knowledge with you. Rain Checks will save you lots of money!!!!

Ever been to a store going for a deal and they were out of the item? Three weeks ago, I wanted a deal at Walgreens on an 8 pack of Duracell C batteries for $6.00. Trenton's swing runs on C batteries and those puppies run out quickly! They only had 1 pack in stock, so I went to the manager and asked for a Rain Check on the deal.

A Rain Check is a piece of paper that allows you to have the same deal in the future when they are actually in stock even though the sale may be done. Most (but not all) stores offer Rain Checks if you ask. The manager will then ask you how many you would like. I asked for 2. So, my rain check had the date of the sale, the product name, the sale price and the quantity.

Today, 3 weeks later, I got this pack of 8 batteries which was selling today for $14.99 for $6.00!!!!!!!! Additionally, I had a coupon for $1.50 off Duracell batteries from this week's newspaper, so I really got all these batteries for $4.50!!!!!!!Because I only used one of the 2 listed on my Rain Check, they wrote another one out for me for 1 more!!!! So next week, I plan on getting the same deal! (I was pretty stoked, can you tell?)

I file these Rain Checks in my coupon book under that category. So, this Rain Check was in the Misc. section under "Batteries." Easy!

Do not be afraid to ask. Asking will save you money and USUALLY stores are willing to help you out as they want your business! Good luck!

  1. I love rainchecks (except when my coupons expire before the item is restocked!) :-)

  2. You can wait FOREVER if your coupons expire, because the rain check is good for eternity (or until you get another coupon). I just got free deoderant after about a year.

  3. I agree, I use my rainchecks to buy me some time to wait on good coupons . . . or to buy me another week to find the product at another store so I Don't run all around town to all the CVS to find the good deal on the shelves. . . I do file these under the store name rather than in a separate category though . . . or you could file them with your battery coupons so you don't forget what you have.

  4. Some of the stores (around here at least) have rainchecks that do expire. :( They change the date on them if the expiration passes and they still haven't restocked the item, so sometimes I'm able to get another coupon by then, but other times I'm out of luck for use with my expired coupon. Oh well, usually another good deal is just around the corner!
